Saturday Night Live is a late-night sketch-comedy television program which has been running on NBC since October 11, 1975. It is seen live, by the east coast, at 11:30 PM on Saturday nights. It runs one hour-and-a-half with periodic commercial breaks. Its television season begins in late September/early October and ends in mid-May, producing around 20 LIVE episodes a season. Reruns and specials are inserted between live shows (no more than three live shows are done in consecutive weeks). Other shows have tried to top SNL, but no late-night show can reach the ratings pinnacle, the essence & the magic this show has to offer.
